Hello, everyone! I am checking-in, to let everyone know that I have my own book with only my own entry back, but I don't have anyone else's books that I have forwarded on to Glaucia Mir, after completing them so long ago.

Since somewhere along the way the chain of forwarding books in the appropriate manner was broken, my book never had a chance -- it is very regretful, as I was looking forward to contributing to the effort of food moly and hoping to get book full of artwork AND recipes...

I am going to say "good bye" to this group now... but I want to let you all know that while I am removing my book from circulation, I would be happy to create entries for the members of this group, but on individual basis:

if you so desire, send me your book directly, I will complete the entry, and send your book back directly to you! You can e-mail me through flickr if you are interested.

TRACKING MOLY'S

Hi Everyone, I have a made a visual log for everyone to see who has worked on whose book (The original visual log was made by Ramires for molyxportrait 4 and it was a wonderful way to see where and who had worked on whose books).
I find many of the drawings are very beautiful and I can see the commitment made by some of you.
The only true way groups work is that all of you cannot be too lax either with yourselves or others in your team stick to the rules if within a month you cannot make an entry, send it to the next artist, get on top of the person who is holding books right away otherwise you will find yourselves begging for months even a year in advance for not doing something about it early on. (being a part of the molyexchanges is based on trust, respect and commitment and yes you walk in knowing that in your group there might be that "ONE" individual who just holds things back for everyone). That being said, as of now I see Glaucia never made entry's nor sent books along, though she seemed to have been a bit communicative during last year, has anyone contacted Glaucia personally?

My name is Tania and I am the moderator assigned to groups MOlYX51 through MOlYX60. I am here to basically assist all of you in any way I can to keep your group together, evolving, creating and hopefully finishing up all the wonderful books that are floating around between each others hands, inclusive of nudging anyone along who falls behind and anything else in between.

Onion Jelly for Sharon's Local Recipes Book

Something I'd never encountered before moving to Vancouver, BC is the splendor of caramelized onions as onion jelly, especially my personal favorite purple ones, whatever kind those happen to be.

Kudos to the website RecipeZaar and user Mercy for help with a version of the recipe that can be jarred, as the other one I learned in a cooking class is intended for immediate use.

Thanks Boz, I got my Moly back and it looks great. I am now contacting the next person on the list to see if they are ready to receive it - that way I feel I have some control over the book. It must be nearly a year now since we started this moly.

As the title suggests, how about establishing where molys are?

Perhaps we could also establish who would like to carry on with the exchange?

I had a few things on my plate, so I do understand how stressful life may be.

However, as it would be nice to carry on, then perhaps we could also establish where molys are.

The two, I sent God knows when, should probably be with Lindy? What about the others?

Sharon hasn't had any moly so far, which means that some of the molys got stuck somewhere over the ocean.

Sharon, your moly should be with Lindy now. I sent both, yours and mine, about three weeks ago (2nd class stamp).

Apple soup has been very popular in my family as a fresh summer dish. As far as I know it is not widely known outside the North of Poland. I hope you will like my maze of Apple soup.

I haven't taken a photo of my moly, which is a book of lamentable and miserable cooking disasters and as such is meant to be ugly :-)

Hi Everyone

Do you think we could have a stocktaking? What I mean is could we all report in and say whose book we are working in and when we expect to hand it on to the next person on the list - it would be nice to know where they all are and where any holdups are.

May I suggest that if one of us is too busy to complete a book that they pass it on to the next person on the list. I would hate to lose my book and I am sure the rest of you feel the same. If this group is not going to continue, please may I have my Moly back but I do hope that it will carry on as I thought it was such a good idea - "Food".

Ian's book, Albina's entry: Roasted Pumpkin!

This recipe of "Roasted Pumpkin with Shallots and Sage" from Martha Stewart Everyday Food is the closest approximation of what my Mom used to make. While I am not fond of pumpkins as food, I had a great fun time with this illustration.

I got a reply from Glaucia, so she will be getting two books at the same time ... and that means Sharon is next and she will be getting three of them very soon, yay!

I've finished Ian's food moly, pumpkin theme, oh yeah! I decided to put something so simple, yet so damn good in his moly. Roasted pumpkin seeds. yup. That's it! The best thing about being stationed in Turkey, oh so long ago, was that you could buy fresh, hot pumpkin seeds from vendors who milled down the streets. I must have eaten my weight in pumpkin seeds that year! I will confess that cleaning the seeds you retrieve from a fresh pumpkin kinda stinks, but it is soooo worth it having fresh, hot seeds. Also, as this is Ian's moly, I assumed that he wouldn't mind a vomiting pumpkin :-)

My food moly is a space for you to share a meal, snack, dessert, etc. that you loved to have when you were a child. For me, this was blueberry pancakes at my grandparents house. The berries came from the bush outside the window & were the juiciest, most flavorful on the face of the earth. I'd put butter and boysenberry syrup on them. YUM! I've often said, if I had to choose a last meal, grandma's blueberry pancakes would be it. No doubt about it. Let's load the book with happy memories :-)

Am I ever going to get a food moly?

Can't remember when this group started - late January I think, I was full of excitement and couldn't wait to get going. So I went out and purchased my japanese fold moly and spent ages working out what to do and then GOT ON AND DID IT!! I then sent it on to the next person on the list and waited for one to arrive at my door. It's now nearly the middle of April and I'm still waiting! Has one got lost in the post - who knows?

Finally! A week later than I planned, but it is a complete dinner. Couple of things I wanted to mention: in the back pocket of my moly there are cards with the instructions for cooking this particular dinner-- take one if you like! I decided, in the interests of moving my book forward, to forgo decorating of the jacket and the sign-in page... however! contributors, please sign in. Also I figured each of us can use 3.75 pages here, so go ahead, MAKE ME DINNER! in 30 minutes, if you can manage (OK, it can be 30 minutes cooking time). Now I am off to the Post, and my book is going to be on it's way to Glaucia.

Sorry the iphone snap is a tad washed out, but happy to have gotten back to the molys after a hellish past couple weeks of work & food poisoning (oh, the irony). If you happen to be in Vancouver BC, don't eat the burgers in the Lamplighter, BTW.

And for the record, I love the food pyramid and the delectable cut outs for the haggis recepie! So cool, hope I didn't muddy the waters too much with my enthusiasm for bony bottom feeders!

Alrighty so I finally got around to working on some moleskins. I have here Lindy's Moleskin. (Sorry I forgot to get a photo before I drew all over it.)

Plus my addition, It's the food Pyramid! (looks better large, there's a lot of tiny detail)

And I added a little something to the title page (because everyone needs some kitties in their life).

Getting started with the inside flap

So while I'm just getting over holiday madness and getting to stride with my many Moly obligations, one thing I want to do is set a staple for myself that carries through all the Molys I kick off. While contributing to the Tag Tree project I devised a couple character designs that pretty well encapsulate stylistically where I'm at in my downhill slide towards a beach combing 40 something. They're surly yet cognisant of heir origins, annoying as such hindsight might prove to be. They're wiling to exist as the figments of 5 year old earnest effort before crinkling a tuned page into multifaceted reveals of how capricious and delicate they actually are.

Short version, I elected to tag the 4 new Molys with the Older Sister / Younger Brother wearing a Mexican Wrestling Mask duo as a sign of authorship and as means of setting bar and whimsical tone for all four tomes. Now on with the real work due creating content for the actual Origami folds each book promises to unfurl like blossoms from buds beneath the talented hands of my many collaborators. And that, friends, shall be breathtaking for this 38-something to behold. Youth, vigor, and all that don't you know?

Alright then, after some great discussion, I heartily suggest let's all start with individual books to exchange.

How about we aim to start mailing them on to the next cat in line by next by Feb 1st or so at the latest, sound good? And I'm in Vancouver BC Canada, so not sure who I should mail too, or whom should mail to me, any thoughts on that?

Remember to put your book's theme in the front of your book, as well as your name and address, as per usual with Moly books, and most importantly, have fun!

I can't begin to tell you all how excited I am to start swapping recipes with everyone!

All right, my tummy is growlin' now that I've had some time to recover from the holiday abundances, so how about let's get this Moly started!

First step, please send me your contact & shipping info so I can compile a list for the group and sort out a mailing order. Feel free to use Flickr or emonxie@gmail.com, fine either way.

Next up, would anyone like to soup up (pardon the pun) our page here, or should I el photoshopo up a new banner at least, something that maybe says "food" or at least hints at "menu"?

And lastly, would we prefer contributing all to a single book of recipes, or should we do an exchange, each of us starting a Moly based on themes, for example my Moly might be "Desserts Following Fish" while yours might be "Cakes through the Ages" or something far more clever. What do cats think about this?

Join us in a recipe Moly exchange that illuminates our favorite foods, simple or complicated, with a recipe and an illustration of what it should or could look like in person or recalled for the experience of it within the dynamic confines of your own illustrious imaginations.

For example, a recipe for a favorite comfort food after a tiring day or bad date.

Or something you loved as a kid your relatives or neighbors used to make.

Or a recipe you collected from your travels, or learned from a friend, or gleaned from a favorite tome.

Or perhaps a recipe handed down generation to generation that requires some improvisation with ingredients or specifics of detail so precise only the right mood and climate would facilitate the meal properly.

Something that must be broiled, or boiled, or dried, or constructed from only the freshest of ingredients.

Or perhaps something that isn't so much a favorite recipe for you as it would be for your best imaginary friend or the monster that lives under your bed, or did when you were young.

Or perhaps something that isn't about how it's made, but how the event should go to procure or consume it properly.

Just riffing, but have a thought and post comments about this while we wait for our ranks to fill up to the magic number of 10.

Moly_x_59, founded by Emon Xie (Canada), is an extension of the Moleskine Exchange. This blog will follow the adventure of a group of artists around the world, in a Japanese fold Moleskine sketchbook exchange. Our current group includes the artists listed to the right, including contributors in many different countries all over the world.

Each artist will set off with a small Japanese (accordian) folded Moleskine. Creating a drawing, collage, or painting, then send on to the next artist. Each artist will draw on a couple of spreads (3-4 pages) then send it on to the next artist. When the artists book is filled, it will be returned to the owner with images created by artist around the world. Each artist has a month (give or take) to make an entry. The outcome will be a pleasant and surprising adventure, as artists are encouraged to interact and merge their art with others.

The concept:

1. The artists start with the Japanese fold Moleskine - Name, address, email address written in book.

2. Each artist gets 1 month (give or take) to make a sketchbook entry, and mail it to the next person. The order is listed to the right -- for participants in this exchange, look at the list of names under MAILING ORDER. If you ever need to update addresses, please feel free to contact your partners directly! An important part of this project is to discuss and exchange information and ideas.

3. Each artist will do 3-4 pages each round.

4. Artists are encouraged to interact with other images in the book. Please be respectful, but also don't hesitate to meld your art with earlier entries.

5. When the book is full, when one side of the unfolded book is filled, the book will be sent back to its original owner. That artist may continue by buying a new book and sending it to the next person.

6. If a person decides not to continue, she will simply keep her book when it comes back to her. She should email all of the participants to say she is not going to continue. We will decide, then, if we want to find a new person.

7. Please communicate regularly via email. Let each person know that you have received/sent the book. The goal is to have a dialogue. Any comments and questions are welcome.
